3-30-300 & Tree Diversity

This workshop is being hosted by Treeconomics, together with Barcham Trees.

It is open to you if you are a Local Authority Green Space or Tree and Woodland Officer, and is free to join.

Join us as we delve into what Local Authority Tree Teams need to know in 2026.

Every street and every neighbourhood needs trees and green space. 3-30-300 is a simple concept for assessing how true that is for each home in a town or city. It was introduced by Cecil Konijnendijk, spreading worldwide in a relatively short period of time.

We also need those trees to thrive in the face of a changing climate, with species diversity as one of our strongest tools.

The twin challenges of tree equity (where) and tree selection (what) sit behind every urban tree planting decision.

This seminar will explore both topics:

How to use 3-30-300 as part of the urban forest toolbox:

  • What it is and how it is built up
  • How it complements other tools – canopy studies, tree equity score
  • How it can be used
  • Understanding access to nature at all levels from house to street, to neighbourhood to city
  • Engaging with other policy areas and budget holders – education and health
  • Communicating with internal and external stakeholders

What tree diversity really means and the benefits to be achieved:

  • What tree diversity is and how to work it out for your own population
  • The risks and the benefits
  • The native vs non-native dilemma
  • Common misconceptions

Refreshments and lunch will be provided.
